Thankful: To-Dos

Keeping with yesterday's theme - - Today I'm thankful for an ever over flowing to do list.  Because I have an over flowing to do list, it means that my household is all well enough to be in their appropriate places (work, school, etc.,) and I'm focused on hammer through my to do list.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful: Tired-ness

Is tired-ness a word?  If not, I've created it - if Rachel Ray gets to create words and have them added to the dictionary, then I say I can take the creative license to create my own word, too!

Today I'm thankful for my tired-ness.  I'm looking at my computer screen with a few more hours of work that could be done tonight, but will wait until tomorrow, through bleary eyes.  Why should I be thankful for this tired feeling?  Because it means that I'm not bored or lazy at the moment and I'm blessed enough to have plenty of "things" going on!

Thankful: Superhero

Today I'm thankful (and many days I am) for my Superhero husband.  My little Bug is sick, we are hoping it's just a cold, but Super will be taking off tomorrow to take her to the doctor. Today's thankful post is simple.

Thankful - Date Night

Today, I'm thankful for a date night with my husband.  Since having our sweet little one date nights are rare for a few reasons.  Usually we just like to hangout around the house, playing with Bug.  We also tend to be homebodies on the weekends.  And of course, once having children it just takes effort to go places, especially when going somewhere includes packing up a little one with all their plunder to stay for a few hours at a babysitters (in our very fortunate case this is in-laws). Tonight was definetly worth the trouble and I'm thankful for our few hours away.

Using the "bcc" Field in Email

In class this week (did you know that I'm teaching a class this semester - if not, you do now) we talked about the appropriate use of email and explored the "to" field, "cc" field and "bcc" field. My guidance to the class was to use the "bcc" field sparingly - would enjoy hearing your feedback on this topic. One caveat, I'm no Grammar Girl (one of my new heroes)!  But this posting is in response to several Twitter comments I received on the topic.

What is bcc anyway? BCC stands for blind carbon copy. When using the bcc field you should use it with extreme caution. Here are a few cases where it's appropriate to use the bcc field.

Appropriate use of the bcc field
1. You're sending an email to a several people and you don't want someone to mistakenly hit the "reply to all" button and spam your distribution list. Example: You want to send out a note to 20 of your closest friends, including your Mom, letting them know that you're going to do a gig at a cool venue. You send the email to yourself, from yourself, and copy your 20 friends in the "bcc" field. That way if your Mom hits reply to all, with the message, "honey, I'm so proud of you, hugs and kisses" the 19 other people on the list won't get it, only you will. I'm not picking on the Mom's here - I'm a Mom, too, but this was the example I gave in class.

2. You need to send out an email to several people and some need to be "in the loop" and others just need to be "aware of the loop". This appropriate use is compliments of my husband, the superhero. Example: You send an email to three of your co-workers, a vendor and your boss. The email pertains to a vendor coming in the following week and includes logistic information. You send the email "to" everyone and "bcc" your boss because your boss doesn't need to be in the loop of any additional information, just aware of the arrangements. I wouldn't have thought of this one as being an appropriate use of the bcc field, but after a discussion with the superhero, I can see where this could come in handy.

In appropriate uses of the bcc field
Don't use the bcc field for any email where you wouldn't want the people receiving the email to know that someone else is receiving the email. Don't use it as a way to "cya" or to clue in your boss or co-workers to something snarky going on. Especially, don't use it if a bcc recipient were to inadvertently reply to all would cause embarrassment to many or even just to you!

Please leave a comment if you can think of other appropriate uses of the bcc field or if you have a horror bcc story. Please share!

Thankful: Home

Today I'm thankful that I'm able to stay at home with Amelia-bug.  She's under the weather today and has been for a few days - and I won't go into many details, but she's had some *stomach* issues that toddlers get sometimes.

I've worked a lot of places where deciding that I needed to stay home would have involved a lot of heart-ache and working until all hours of the day and night to catch up from being out of the office - thankfully, I have a job now where my schedule is fairly flexible and family friendly.

What are you thankful for today?
